How to Apply for a US Visa From Uganda: B1/B2 Visitor Visa Steps

Ugandans travelling to the United States for tourism, family visits or business usually apply for the B1/B2 visitor visa. The process centres on an in person interview at the US Embassy in Kampala.

Step by step

  1. Complete the DS-160 form online and upload a photo that meets US requirements. Save the confirmation page.
  2. Create an account on the official visa appointment system and pay the visa application fee.
  3. Book your interview at the US Embassy Kampala. Wait times vary.
  4. Attend the interview with your passport, DS-160 confirmation and supporting documents.
  5. Receive a decision. If approved, your passport is returned with the visa.

Supporting documents

The consular officer may not ask for documents, but carry proof of employment or business, bank statements, property documents, family ties and your travel plan.

Interview tips

  • Answer briefly, clearly and honestly
  • Know your travel plans and who is paying
  • Show strong ties to Uganda
  • Dress smartly and arrive on time

If you are refused

A refusal under section 214(b) usually means the officer was not convinced of your ties to Uganda. You can reapply when your circumstances change.

Visa rules, fees and processing times change often. Always confirm current requirements on the official embassy or government website before you apply, and never pay agents who promise guaranteed visas.
